Natalie was 22 and was wanting to be like everybody else, she wanted to live on her own. I happen to be helping a friend's daughter move and ran into a friend of mine downtown. We knew each other and our daughters knew each other and we got talking about where her daughter was, and what my daughter was looking for as far as her own safe and affordable housing. Come to find out she told me about the Bob Brown house and Independence Homes. I sat on the information for a couple weeks and then I tried to call and there was no answer. Two weeks later when I was in Lexington taking Natalie to a medical appointment on a whim I just stopped in. That's when God put Hannah and the Bob Brown house in our lives. I told Natalie we were just gonna look around and saw that it was an independent living situation like she had been wanting to try. We started asking questions and met with Hannah. She said as long as you get Social Security you were eligible. Box one checked I said, do you mind if we look around, she said no not at all and she walked around with us showing us the place. I said I know this is kind of crazy to ask, but what are the odds you actually have a room available? She laughed she said actually the CEO is out of town and is going to be back tomorrow and she said I need to have this room filled before she got back. Box two checked. I said oh so you do have something available? She said yes I looked at her and I looked at Natalie and it was like a God thing you could feel it. I looked at Natalie and said are you interested and Natalie said yes. I'm not sure we knew what we were in for moving Natalie out on her own. So I said when can she move in and she said today if she wants to just give me time to mop the floor. I said oh my I don't need it that quickly. That was on a Monday. We sat down and talked with Hannah and I filled out the paperwork and application. I don't know that Natalie knew what this actually meant, but her mama, me, was in tears. It was such a blessing. The location is only 14 miles from where we lived. I was able to go up and visit anytime or pick her up anytime and take her wherever she needed to go. She moved in on a Wednesday. It's been the greatest fit for our family. She's out on her own exploring new things, meeting new friends and having to learn how to deal with other people. She can be social when she wants to in the commons areas or when she needs to de-escalate she has her little efficiency apartment to chill out. It's now been a year and six months. It's been the greatest thing for myself as well as Natalie. It was time for her to be on her own. I can't say enough about the staff who work there and put up with Natalie's quirks. Natalie talks often with Hannah and Katie and they are so understanding with her disability. Katie and Hannah and the rest of the folks who work there are always willing to be available to talk to me to discuss problems, Shoot me a text if they need me or anything. If one of the staff are out going on errands, it's absolutely nothing for them to take some of the residents along. I feel that the Bob Brown house and Independence Homes is a blessing to the community and the residents that live there and the families impacted by the opportunity for someone with their disabilities to grow and learn more about themselves in a very safe environment. If you know, God, you know, indeed it was on God's time when we met the Bob Brown house.
The Bob brown house is not just a group home it's a community. The staff there do not refer to the people as residents but, more as family. I have volunteered here for the last 4 years (even though it seems more as hanging with friends) I cannot see myself spending my time. What the Bob Brown house does for the community is god sent.
I love living here because the people that live here are nice and I get along with all of them. The Staff are also nice and friendly, I get along with them well. I wouldn't live anywhere else.
I want say that this place saved me from being homeless! The staff are very helpful in meeting my needs and the needs of the other residents I recommend this place to anyone looking for a fresh new start.
The Bob Brown house is a family. A family consisting of the residents and a staff whose primary goal is to provide the residence a quality life, and a place to call home. Birthdays are celebrated, as are holidays and various other events! Residents are also treated to field trips that include seeing a movie, going bowling or to watch a ballgame. The staff does an excellent job at maintaining a family atmosphere.
The Bob Brown House is great for the community by helping individuals with special needs. They have their residents participating in group activities such as golf tournaments, bowling, etc
This has been one of the best establishments within the community of Lexington that is built on strong values. More so on bringing the better good out of people. This is the epitome of a loving and nurturing community.
I visit the Bob Brown House monthly to drop off donations from clients. Every time I enter the building g I feel a sense of peace and joy for these residents. Everyone is happy to see me, there is always good smells coming from their wonderful chef. The staff works hard to create a fun environment for the residents and has special events often.
The BBH is a blessing to our community. The care and love shown to the residents in the house is remarkable! Truly a cause worth standing behind and supporting. I thank the staff for all they do and for what they provide to the residents.
I see a problem in the community and think there's nothing I can do about it. I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. Not Bob Brown. He saw the need for housing for disabled adults and he did something about it. Thus the Bob Brown House was established. The residents of the Bob Brown house are just like the rest of us, they just want to be respected, heard, and loved. The community is lucky to have the Bob Brown House.

I recommend them completely. I have known miss Sadie ever since elementary school. Her whole family is very sweet and centered around making the Bob Brown House an amazing place for their residents. This place is awesome and so are the residents.
The BBH & Independence Homes show remarkable compassion and respect for often overlooked individuals, making invaluable contributions to the Lexington community.

Such a caring independent assisted living facility. The staff are not only employees, they truly care about the residents. They go above and beyond to treat all of those that live there as family. Our family is so great full to each and every one of you! Thank you
Bob Brown house helps disabled people live independently. They are there and help when needed .They have their own apartments. It is a great place.
My name is Jennifer Covington. Before the BBH, I felt out of place. I was always depress and lost. I never felt I belonged anywhere. However, when I found the BBH, I felt happy because I could be myself. I was not an outsider, and I knew I belonged. I am safe, happy, and love. They are the light in my dark world and made me realize that there are people like me. The BBH saved my life.
